As much as I love going on adventures, sometimes you are stuck in the house or need something to do around the campfire. With small kids, pre-teens and a teenager, finding something everyone likes to play can be a bit tricky. Here are our family favorites! I recommend keeping these on hand. Some of them are even small enough to pack for a day trip or take camping! Here are 7 of our favorite family games to play.
A quick-playing dice game. Pile up your points by rolling the dice and adding up acorns. If you roll all squirrels, scurry to score as many nuts as you can! 2-4 players; Ages 8+ (we play with my 7 year old and he does great)
We NEVER get bored of this game. It is a MUST BUY. Tactical strategy game with easy to follow rules. We have played this as a family teaming up with our 2 and 4 year old. They caught on quickly. 2-4 players; Ages 6+
Quick and fun! The little kids will really enjoy playing this one together. Wake up the Queens with math and adding. Play a Knight to steal a Queen. 2-5 players; Ages 8+ (works well with younger players if they have some help)
Oldie but goodie!! Not a great game for taking on the road, but perfect for a rainy day or sick day when you’re stuck in the house. There are so many versions of this game that have been released, but this is the original fun. Game of strategic conquest; build your army and try to take over other territories through dice-rolling wars. 2-6 players; Ages 10+
My kids can’t get enough of this one because it’s weird, fun and keeps them entertained. A card game for people who like kittens, explosions and laser beams! Originally a kickstarter game and once you play you’ll know why it is well-loved. Easy and fun for the family. 2-5 players; Ages 7+
The Dweebies are uniquely colorful characters and you’ll fall in love at fist play. Match up Dweebies together! 2-6 players; Ages 8+ (easy for younger players with some help)
A card game much like solitarie. The more cards you lay in the middle pile, the more points you get! Fun for all ages (you just need to be fast and know how to count!). 2-6 players, but it’s more fun with 3-6.
